Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of these Terms

3types is a social reading and writing platform for fiction, nonfiction and poetry. By creating an account or using the platform you agree to these Terms, our Content Guidelines, Privacy Policy and, where relevant, our Creator & Payments Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use 3types.

2. Account eligibility and age

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account on 3types while the platform is in its early stage. You must provide accurate registration information and you may hold only one account unless we agree otherwise. We may refuse, suspend or remove accounts that breach these Terms.

Age is currently self-declared at sign-up. We do not claim to operate a legally sufficient age verification or age assurance system today; stronger age assurance is a planned requirement before mature content is made broadly available (see section 6).

3. Account security

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for activity carried out through your account. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

4. Your content and your ownership

You own your work. You retain all ownership and copyright in the works, chapters, comments and other material you publish on 3types. Publishing on 3types does not transfer ownership of your work to 3types, and nothing in these Terms makes us a co-author or co-owner.

Licence you grant us. To operate the platform, you grant 3types a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, back up, reproduce, format, technically process, display, distribute, recommend and promote your published content in connection with running and marketing 3types (for example on the home feed, in discovery surfaces, in emails you have consented to, and in previews on social platforms). This licence is limited to those purposes, does not permit us to sell your work as our own or licence it to third parties for their own commercial exploitation, and ends for future uses when you delete the content or your account, subject to reasonable technical delays, cached copies and any records we must keep by law.

Your responsibilities. You must hold all rights necessary to publish what you upload, including rights in any cover image, quotation or collaborative material. Do not publish work that infringes anyone else's rights.

5. Prohibited content and conduct

Regardless of any creative-freedom provisions below, the following are never permitted:

• Any sexual content involving, or sexualising, minors, in any form, including text and images.
• Grooming, child sexual exploitation, or any attempt to contact or solicit minors sexually.
• Non-consensual intimate imagery, so-called revenge material, or sexual content depicting real, identifiable people without their consent.
• Content that facilitates human trafficking, sexual exploitation or coercion.
• Credible threats of violence, incitement to violence, or terrorist and violent extremist material.
• Targeted harassment, stalking, doxxing, or coordinated abuse of a person or group.
• Hate speech or discriminatory abuse targeting people on the basis of protected characteristics.
• Content that promotes or provides instruction in serious criminal activity, or that encourages suicide, self-harm or eating disorders.
• Plagiarism, infringing material, malware, spam, scraping, or manipulation of reads, likes, rankings or payments.
• Impersonation of another person or organisation.
• Anything otherwise unlawful under applicable UK law.

6. Mature writing

3types intends to support serious creative work, including literary and fictional writing that contains mature themes: sexual themes, sex scenes, strong language, violence, distressing subject matter and other adult material, provided it complies with these Terms, the Content Guidelines and applicable law. 3types is not an unrestricted adult-content platform and section 5 always applies.

During the current beta, writing whose sole or principal purpose is sexual arousal, that is, explicitly pornographic written content, is not permitted, and will not be permitted until highly effective age assurance has been implemented and reviewed.

If you publish mature work you must label it accurately using the maturity and content-warning fields we provide. Mislabelling mature work is itself a breach of these Terms. Maturity labels and content warnings are shown before a reader enters a work. Mature work is not promoted to readers who have not indicated they are 18 or over, is excluded from emails and general recommendations to those readers, may be excluded from other discovery surfaces and promotional placements, and may be restricted to audiences that have passed additional age controls once those controls are in place. Self-declared age is not a claim of legally sufficient age assurance.

7. Comments and community behaviour

Comments should engage with the work. Criticism is welcome; abuse is not. Writers may disable comments on their own works. You can block another user, which prevents further interaction with you on the platform.

8. Reporting and moderation

Works, chapters, comments and accounts can be reported from the platform. Reports go to our moderation queue. Where content breaches these Terms we may, proportionately: add or correct a maturity label, limit distribution, unpublish or remove content, remove monetisation eligibility, restrict features, suspend an account, or terminate an account. We may act faster and more decisively for illegal content or risk to a child. See Safety & Reporting for the process and appeals.

9. Suspension and termination

You may delete your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend or terminate access where you breach these Terms, where required by law, or where continued access presents a serious risk to others. Where reasonable and lawful we will tell you why and how to appeal.

10. Copyright complaints and repeat infringement

If you believe content on 3types infringes your copyright or other intellectual property rights, use the process on our Copyright / IP page. We remove or disable access to content that we determine to be infringing, notify the affected user where appropriate, and accept counter-notices. Accounts that infringe repeatedly may be terminated.

11. Creator payments and tipping

Tipping is not operational yet. Payment infrastructure is not enabled, no money can be sent or received through 3types today, and any tipping interface you see is preparatory only. Nothing is recorded as paid unless funds have actually moved.

When payments launch: during a Founding Period 3types intends to charge a 0% 3types platform commission on eligible creator tips, excluding third-party processing fees, currency conversion costs, taxes and other unavoidable charges, which are outside our control. After the Founding Period, 3types currently intends to introduce a 10% platform commission on eligible creator transactions. The Founding Period is a temporary promotional period with no fixed end date yet; we will give notice before the applicable platform commission changes. The fee that actually applies will be disclosed in-product before you can send or receive a payment. The payment provider, merchant of record arrangement, payout threshold and supported payout currencies are still to be confirmed.

Publishing eligibility and monetisation eligibility are separate questions. Content that is permitted to exist on 3types may still be excluded from tipping and other monetisation, by content category, where required by our payment provider, by applicable law, or by app-store or other distribution requirements. Sexually explicit and other mature content is not automatically monetisable. We do not promise that all permitted content will be eligible for payments. 12. Refunds, chargebacks and payment restrictions

Tips are voluntary and, once payments are live, are generally non-refundable except where required by law or where we or our payment provider identify fraud, error or a prohibited transaction. Chargebacks, reversals and related fees may be deducted from creator balances. We and our payment provider may withhold, delay, reverse or refuse payments where legally or contractually necessary, including for verification, sanctions, fraud and tax reasons.

13. Service availability and changes to features

3types is provided on an as-is and as-available basis while in early release. We may add, change, restrict or remove features, feeds and surfaces, and there may be downtime or data-loss risk inherent in any early-stage service. Keep your own copies of your writing.

14. Deleting accounts and content

You can unpublish or delete individual works and chapters, and delete your account, from within the product. Deletion removes your content from public surfaces. Some data may persist briefly in backups, and we may retain limited records where we are required to, for example moderation and safety records or transaction records once payments exist.

15. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, 3types is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, goodwill, or loss or corruption of data or content, and our total liability to you in connection with the service is limited to the amount you have paid us (if any) in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. You are responsible for the content you publish and, as between us, you agree to bear the consequences of publishing content that breaches these Terms or the law.

16. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, without affecting any statutory consumer rights you have in your country of residence.

17. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the platform develops. We will publish the updated version here with a new date and will make reasonable efforts to flag material changes in-product or by email. Continuing to use 3types after changes take effect means you accept them.
