Creative freedom

Difficult subject matter is part of literature. You can write about addiction, grief, crime, faith, desire, cruelty, war, illness and despair. Depicting something is not endorsing it, and we read work in context: a novel about violence is not the same thing as a threat.

Broadly, if it is your own writing, honestly labelled, and legal, it belongs here.

Mature writing

Fiction and literary nonfiction on 3types may contain sexual themes, sex scenes, strong language, violence and disturbing material, within the limits below and applicable law. Poetry gets the same latitude.

There is a limit during the current beta. Writing whose sole or principal purpose is sexual arousal, that is, explicitly pornographic written content, is not permitted until highly effective age assurance has been implemented and reviewed. 3types is not an unrestricted adult-content platform.

Mature-labelled writing is kept out of promoted surfaces, general recommendations and emails for readers who have not indicated they are 18 or over, and may require readers to pass stronger age controls once those exist. Maturity labels and content warnings are shown before a reader enters the work. This self-declaration is not a claim of legally sufficient age assurance. Labels and content warnings

Use the maturity setting and content-warning field honestly. Label sexual content, graphic violence, self-harm, abuse and other material a reader would reasonably want flagged in advance. Under-labelling to reach a wider audience is a breach; over-labelling is never punished.

Sexual content: hard limits

• No sexual content involving or sexualising minors, in any form, fictional or otherwise. This is the line we will never move.
• No grooming, or use of 3types to contact minors sexually.
• No non-consensual intimate imagery, and no sexual content about real, identifiable people without their consent.
• No content that facilitates trafficking, prostitution of others, or sexual exploitation.
• No sexual content involving animals, and no explicit imagery, which the platform is not built for.

Harassment and abuse

Do not target real people: no threats, pile-ons, doxxing, stalking, sexual harassment or abuse of a writer in their own comments. Robust criticism of a work is fine. Attacking the person is not.

Hate and discriminatory abuse

Do not dehumanise or incite hatred against people because of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation. A character can hold ugly views; the work cannot exist to promote them.

Violence and illegal content

No credible threats, no incitement to violence, no terrorist or violent extremist material, no practical instructions for weapons, explosives or serious crime, and no content encouraging suicide, self-harm or eating disorders. Nothing unlawful under UK law.

Copyright and plagiarism

Publish only work you have the rights to. Do not post someone else's writing as your own, and clear any substantial quotations or images you use. See Copyright & IP.

Spam and manipulation

No bulk or automated posting, no engagement rings or bought reads, likes and follows, no scraping, and no using comments or works purely to drive traffic elsewhere.

Reporting and appeals

Report a work, comment or account from the platform, or email safety@3types.app. We can relabel, limit distribution, unpublish, remove monetisation eligibility, restrict or suspend accounts. You can appeal. Details on Safety & Reporting.
